    Learn the fun outdoor sport of orienteering.  Your children will use a compass and map in order to find 11 control markers throughout the park.  

    Although the ideal age range for this activity is 8-12, you can bring your whole family and participate as a family unit.  After a brief introduction to orienteering, families will spread out to find the control markers on their own.

    Please register for only one session.

    We will usher in the Spring Equinox with an evening stroll to the beach. We will look for signs of the emerging spring,  enjoy the sunset,  and do a little sky gazing as the stars begin to twinkle.

    Meet the naturalist to learn how to identify some of our local wildlife by their tracks and other signs they leave behind. We will then take a hike to practice our skills and see which critters have been out and about. The hike will be approximately 1 mile and is not stroller-friendly.     Description: Wade in the bay with a seine net to discover critters living close to the shore. Participants will get a close look at bay animals such as grass shrimp, gobies, and skittlefish. Wear clothes and shoes that can get wet.

    Get a behind-the-scenes look as we enjoy a spring hike around Ward Farm. We will visit several habitats and see which springtime flowers, plants and animals abound. The hike will be approximately 1.5 miles and is not stroller-friendly. Participants should wear sturdy footwear and bring water and insect spray.

    You can’t eat them, but it sure is fun to make them! Join in the muddy fun as we explore the mud –how it feels, how it smells - what animals live in the mud? Come prepared for getting wet and dirty (adults and kids both), wear old sneakers that you can wear in the water (no flip flops), an old towel, and bring a change of clothes for the way home.

    All participants above 2 years old will need to wear masks.

    Want to see some horseshoe crabs spawning on the beach by starlight? Join us for this unique chance to see Flag Ponds at night! With luck we will see horseshoe crabs spawning at the water’s edge or maybe bioluminescent comb jellies in the water!

    In order to keep groups small this year, we are offering staggered start times.  Each session will begin with a short informative talk about horseshoe crabs and end with a walk along the beach to look for them along the beach.  Please only sign up for one session.

    Bring a flashlight, insect repellent, and wear shoes that can get wet. You may want to have a change of clothes for the way home.  Don't forget masks for everyone over the age of 2.
