Kings Landing Park is a scenic waterfront destination along the Patuxent River that blends natural beauty, outdoor recreation, and rich local history. The park supports hiking, birding, fishing, and environmental exploration and features forests, river access, and a trail network. Amenities include rustic cabins, pavilions, a woodland amphitheater, equestrian facilities, an archery range, and kayak and canoe access.
The land reflects a much deeper cultural legacy, including early settlement by the Piscataway Indian nations, whose communities inhabited and stewarded the Patuxent River region long before European contact. In the early 1600s, Captain John Smith explored the area, and by the mid-to-late 19th century the property encompassed a large tobacco farm owned by the King family. Descendants of those enslaved by the King family were granted parcels of the property and still live throughout Huntingtown. In the 20th century, the property was acquired by the Baltimore Druid Hill YMCA and developed the property into a camp that served inner-city youth from 1950 to 1980.
Today, Kings Landing Park is a valued community asset, offering access to waterfront recreation, nature-based programming, and historic interpretation within a tranquil and environmentally significant setting.
